Cottage Style Addict

My name is Susan and I'm a cottage style addict.

I don't remember when it happened, but one day my inner girly-girly took over and I have been styling my house in that look ever since. I don't go overboard on the big cabbage rose patterns, but I'll buy just about anything that has that old, white, beat up look. I subscribe to Cottage Living, Cottage Home, Victoria, Martha Stewart and just had the nerve to add Cottage Journal, an online newsletter. I probably keep up with the newsletter the most because they're short and sweet. If I can ever get my home fixed up the way I want it, I'll post pictures. Wait a minute! All this blogging about it has inspired me to get started!

Here are just a few pictures from the Cottage Journal:

Busy, Busy, Busy

Had a burst of creative energy the other day and designed these cards. Could have gone on longer but for some reason at 5:00 I instinctively got up, unplugged my glue gun, and walked out the door. Hmmmm.

Creative images just came randomly, so there was a mix.

This one uses an image from Marjolein Bastin. She's the incredible artist who does the Nature's Sketchbook collection you've probably seen at Hallmark stores. I have one of her plan books and scanned one of the images. This one is perfect for Mother's Day.

This one was designed for an engagement congratulations, but would be suitable for wedding or anniversary.

Butter Blossoms Memories

They were here and they were gone! I'm referring to the beautiful little cookies that I ordered from butterblossoms.etsy.com.

They arrived Good Friday in the most charming packaging (I notice that kind of stuff). Had to share, so they were gone before I could do anything about it! My husband actually ate the entire bag of my thank you shortbreads!!!!!!!!!! He said they were delicious. I'll have to take his word since I didn't get even one!

Anyway, the combination of light, buttery, delicious, beautifully decorated little cookies that come in the cutest package has defiinitely made me a fan of Butter Blossoms. Please check them out (and make sure you hide some away for yourself).

It's the Little Things

Over the past years, I've discovered that it's the little things in life that are fun. No, really, it's the little things.

Notice Anything New?

Don't be confused -- it's still the same Ladybug Lane Says, I just changed my background. I use ShabbyBlogs.com and there are so many pretty ones to choose from I decided to make it easy on myself and use them all. I'll change it up once in awhile, but it will be the same incredible blogspot -- promise.

Something New

Please notice the beautiful image above my shop ad to the right! It is a Jacqui Lawson animated card. Even though I'm in the card business, I subscribe to this ecard service because I absolutely love the graphics. They mesmerize me. I found them about 2 years ago and haven't been able to let go. Click on the image to see the card in all its animated glory. There'll be different ones posted every month or so, so please check back regularly to see what they've come up with. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!!!

And It's Only 9:30 a.m.

One of the busiest Saturdays I've had in a while. In 2 hours I've made coffee, washed clothes, fed cats (including the neighbor's), birds, squirrels, checked emails, picked gardenias, cleaned litterbox, watered flowers in front yard, and chased two possums who were hiding in our barbeque pit off of our deck. Yes, that really happened. If I hadn't left my camera on all night and killed all the battery life I would have taken pictures to prove it (the possum thing, that is).

How could she get all this done, you may ask. I only played Farmville for 15 minutes today.

After this post, I will wash hair, go out to buy baby gift and wine, drive to Baton Rouge to see my new great nephew just born Thursday, come back home, dye Easter eggs with my daughter and son-in-law, go out to dinner, feed cats, birds, squirrels (again), watch Jesus Christ, Superstar (an Easter tradition) and hopefully go to bed without having to worry about possums hiding in our barbeque pit.

Seriously, though, in the busy-ness of it all, let us not forget the importance of this holiday. We are commemorating the suffering and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who gave his life willingly for our salvation, and celebrating His glorious Resurrection! Happy Easter!

Gift Enclosures Are My Thing

Last week or so I posted that my favorite thing to make was note cards. Well, that's history -- gift enclosure cards have now taken the lead spot. Here are a few that I've made in the last few days. The square ones are about 3x3 and the rectangulars are about business card size. Haven't put these in my shop yet, so here's a sneak peek!

Help the Helpless

My love for animals is no secret. Some time ago I was directed to a website devoted to helping animals (of any kind) in many different ways. You click daily and that click goes towards food for animals in shelters. IT COSTS NOTHING TO DO THIS! As I said, I've done it for awhile now and I have never noticed any money missing or charged.

It's so rewarding to do this and feel like you're helping a pet find a forever home!
Here's the site: theanimalrescuesite.com

Read about "Squishy George"

We went intent on getting an older cat to keep our aging cat company. My fatal mistake was picking up the 3 week old sickly orphan for a cuddle. She crawled across the cage, up my jumper and into my hair, where she promptly pooped on me and stole my heart. The owner of the sanctuary begged us to take her as she was so overrun with kitten season. We have since lost our older cat to diabetes, but Squishy George (aka Squishface Mcfishface) is our lovely baby, and is now 5 years old. Somewhere out there there is the perfect rescue cat just waiting for you.

Please visit often. I'd be curious to know if anyone else knows about this site.

I'll Take One of Each

As a member of Etsy, we have favorite items and favorite shops that we share. This is my latest find. The shop is called Butter Blossoms (butterblossoms.etsy.com) and they offer one of the most beautiful collections of cookies I've ever seen.

Take a look at these samples. Haven't eaten any yet, but anything this gorgeous has to taste just as good if not better!!!! I think I'll order the pretty flower cookies today!

First Vendors' Market

This is the day before my first Vendors' Marketplace event and I still have a million things to do.
(So why am I here on the computer?) It's hosted by Absolutely Monogramming and Gifts in Lafayette LA this Friday and Saturday. (Actually, I'm multitasking -- doing my morning computer ritual and drinking coffee).

Well, now that it's hit me that there are only so many hours in a day, I'd better cut this short and get goin'!!! NOW!!!!

Whodunit?

What you are about to read is a true. It happened to me.

I know it's a risk you take when you let a curious cat roam the house unsupervised at night, but so far I'd been pretty lucky. But I woke up to this the other morning.

A few minutes later I saw this.

At this point, it doesn't look good for Lucy.

But then I remembered who I had seen the night before showing
a particular interest in the flowers, or more specifically, the
water inside the vase.

I Can See It

I took these photos yesterday to send to my son and daughter-in-law who are in Beijing right now. It was a gloriously perfect day and couldn't resist capturing all the beauty I saw around me. I could see the glory of God in all of it! Can you see it?

Note Cards Are My Thing

I love to make cards, but I think note cards are my favorite! I've always been drawn to them as well as note pads -- go figure! Even now, even though I can make my own, I still can't pass a card section without checking out the note cards. I might even reach for a pack out of habit until I remember that I make note cards. Still, some are too cute to pass up, but I'm getting better each day! Here are just a couple of my latest that are going to be put in my shop very soon!

Sweet and Simple

This is the latest card I have designed for Mother's Day. I haven't even put it in my Etsy shop yet. I like to design with clean lines and I think this is my favorite MD card so far.

I used Bazzill Basics dotted swiss for the card and the tulips are from Martha Stewart. Inside sentiment and "Celebrate" on the front was done on my computer. Ribbon is a pretty spring green remnant that I had in my collection of snippets.

I'll definitely list this one in my shop, but be sure that I will make one for my mom as well!

Don't Even Know What to Call This

There are so many things going on in my head right now, I can't just focus on one. Not anything bad, just stuff. Stay with me.

Gorgeous spring day so I went outside to peacefully plant some crystal pink and white petunias that had been patiently waiting for me for over 2 weeks. Picked out my spot, pushed my trowel into the dirt and immediately hit roots from the neighboring rather large hostas. This always frustrates me, so the peaceful gardening plan went out the window and I went to all out war! Needless to say, I won, but I'm still feeling bad about the beautiful earthworms that were collateral damage.

I don't know what I was thinking -- I guess I stood in the checkout line at Target a little too long. You know what I'm talking about. All the temptingly needless stuff that they position all around you while you wait. I usually have a pretty hard shell to protect myself from the unfair advantage this situation puts you in, but today was different. Have you seen how pretty all the pastel M&M's are? Can you guess where I'm going with this? There's about three left in a pretty little Easter bowl on one of my end tables.

And last, I was just wondering what a person should do if they overheard a salesperson in a huge garden store giving misinformation to a customer about a particular plant she was considering purchasing, and you knew the correct information?

YAY!!!!!

The decision to put myself out there is paying off! I decided to make some calls to some local gift shops to see if anyone of them would be interested in purchasing some of my handcrafted gift enclosure cards. I now have two definitely and a couple of more I'm in discussion with.

I showcased the styles that I thought would complement their shop offerings when I made my pitch, and it worked! For example, The French Mix is a beautiful shop on Covington's Lee Lane that specializes in upscale, high quality children's clothing and accessories. The vibe is a mix of cottage and vintage so I showed off my vintage baby images that I'd made into enclosure cards. The owner liked what he saw and placed an order.

My other shop sells upscale kitchenware, china, and gourmet cooking items, as well as many other beautiful and unique gifts. The wedding registry is phenomenal and enclosure cards for gifts for the bride and groom were perfect for Simplee Gourmet, also in Covington on Hwy. 21.

I am so excited about this new direction! Hopefully this ride will keep going and going and going -- well, you get the idea. For now, don't stop believin'
