Necessity Is Always The Mother Of Something

We've all heard that "necessity is the mother of invention", but my sister-in-law recently proved that it is also the mother of creativity. She and her husband remodeled their bathroom (and did an amozzing job, I might add), in beautiful shades of light turquoise, brown and cream. A popular color combo, right? Not so when you're looking for that just right picture.

So, Trudie did what any determined, crafty, and creative woman would do -- she designed her own artwork and it was truly inspiring!

She took a frame designed to hold 3 photos, went down to her local craft store and picked out 3 coordinating sheets of scrapbook paper in the colors that she needed. Cut here, cut there, and soon she had exactly what she needed for the finishing touch on the bathroom project. Beautiful!

Another Etsy Jewel

It's been awhile since I've mentioned some of the beautiful crafts
of my fellow Etsians, so I've chosen EverMyHart to showcase today.
Barbara's designs are skillfully handpainted onto delicate glassware that any hostess would be proud to own. These are some of my favorites, but there are many more beautiful pieces to see at her Etsy shop. Reasonable prices and beautiful designs make this shop definitely worth checking out! Think what a great and unique gift something like this would make!

Change is Good (sometimes)

Decided to try another ShabbyBlog Background. Not crazy about how this one works with my basic color scheme, but I'll give it a couple of days or so before I decide to change again.

The Latest

Haven't shown anything from my etsy shop lately, so I thought I would show what's new.

I've always loved Beatrix Potter and now I'm wondering why I have never done anything with her wonderous, enchanting images. Well, the wondering stops and the doing begins. I put this card in my shop today:

Also listed this adorable set of vintage look baby images. All my gift enclosure cards are 3x3 and come with envelopes:

And this set of general purpose gift enclosures:

And last, but not least, this dainty set of hand stamped enclosures with ribbon:

Etsy has some amazing shops that I invite everyone to check out. My next post will feature just one of the many that I plan to showcase. Just go to etsy.com. More specifically, ladybuglaneandco.etsy.com

A Friday is just a Friday

Last Friday was one of those Friday the 13ths that we have ever so often. My day was uneventful, but some folks I know had some self-fulfilling prophesies and blamed it on Friday the 13th. I don't know if I believe in luck -- good or bad. I just prefer to think of it as some days we're the pigeon and some days we're the statue.

Have You Clicked Today?

Several posts ago I mentioned animalrescuesite.com. It's just what the name says. I click regularly to help supply food for unwanted, mistreated animals. It's totally free!!!!! If you read just a few of the many rescue stories, you'll add the site to your bookmarks and click away!! That's how they got me!

Read Francis' story now:

He's sunbathing!

Francis was found wandering the streets during one of the coldest weeks of February. He was taken to our local animal shelter. Although he wore a dingy, tagless collar- no one came looking for him. We are so glad that they didn't. His ears are still a little tattered from being frost bitten, but he's ours now and we love every long inch of him. We'll never let him be cold again...this photo shows that.

Summer Feet

I miss summer feet. And I'm not talking about pampered, tan, perfectly pedicured tootsies! No, I mean the kind of feet lots of us had as kids.

When I was a child we played outdoors -- a lot. As soon as the weather turned the least bit warm (which in Louisiana is about mid-March most of the time) we released our imprisoned "soles" and gingerly walked around the yard. We walked because in the early stages of "summer feet" they were still tender. However, by May, and certainly by the beginning of summer vacation, we were ready to handle most things that lurk in the yard. Time had toughened us up enough so that the occasional accidental meeting with a sticker patch in the grass or a blazing stretch of sidewalk didn't actually incapacitate us.

I was reminded of summer feet a couple of weeks ago when I visited my niece and her new baby. My five year old grand niece Katelyn and I ventured out into the yard to see what we could see and when we went back in we plopped on the sofa and I got a whiff of summer feet -- her summer feet! The combination of outdoor smell, tan, and a little bit of dirt was glorious!

I know this is kind of long. Who knew feet could be so inspiring! All I know is now I want summer feet.

Jessica Weible Illustrations

I've really gotten into using digital images on my cards. They're clean and simple, but there are some tricks I'd like to learn to complement the illustrations I use. I tried using "Gimp for Dummies", but it was too hard (yes, I know how bad that sounds).

Anyway, one of my favorite illustrators is Jessica Weible, who I found on Etsy. Here are some of the cards I've made using her designs:

She has other great designs on her website jessicaweible.com. Here are just a couple:

As the Yard Turns

Backyard nature is a beautiful thing until you personally witness a badass blue jay attack a cute little chickadee family who lived in a cute little birdhouse and steal the babies. Why? Didn't know senseless brutality was practiced within that species (except for the stars of "The Birds").

At least it seemed senseless to me, but maybe I don't know the whole story.

That's all -- no drawn out philosophying (word?). Just therapeutic writing. Have a peaceful day.

Reflection Time

Someone gave me one of those thought of the day calendars some years back and I actually used it. Here are some of the quotes or thoughts that I found gave me lots to think about:

You can never do a kindness too soon, because you never know how soon it may be too late.

If peace be in the heart then the wildest winter storm is full of solemn beauty.

You have a unique message to deliver, a unique song to sing, a unique act of love to bestow. This message, this song, and this act of love has been entrusted exclusively to the one and only you.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

A heartfelt thank you to the brave American soldiers everywhere for their courageous and unfaltering effort in finding and exterminating bin Laden. You are in our prayers and we ask God's blessing on you and your families always.

New Notes on the Block

For some reason, baby birds or birds in general have been on my mind! It was inevitable that I design something else with baby birds. I used the Jessica Weible Illustration digital to create this adorable baby bird train. I'm also working on a small set of simple cards using digitals that I hope to put in my shop today. I hope you check it out! ladybuglaneandco.etsy.com
